Attorney Walter W. Pitt, Jr., was recently nominated to serve a two year, at-large term as Vice President of the Board of Governors. The Board of Governors is largest voluntary Board of legal professionals. The Board of Governors directs and oversees the activities of the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Foundation.

Mr. Pitt currently serves as the Board Chairman for the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem and is a founding member of Bell, Davis & Pitt, PA. In addition to serving on many boards throughout Winston-Salem, he is also the General Counsel of the Forsyth County Tourism Development Committee.

Katrina Redmon Named PTAA Corporate Professional of the Year PDF Print E-mail

The Piedmont Triad Apartment Association (PTAA) named Katrina Redmon as their 2012 Corporate Professional of the Year and honored her with a Diamond Award at their annual Diamond Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 25th(Redmon was selected from a host of local corporate professionals of the Triad region).

Redmon currently serves as the Vice President/Chief and Development Officer for the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem (Housing Authority). Larry Woods, CEO of the Housing Authority noted, “Katrina has been very instrumental in changing the community’s perception of the Housing Authority from a traditional federally funded housing provider to a real estate planning and development company.”

The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem officially welcomed two new Commissioners during their September Board meeting: Sharon “Shari” Covitz, Ph.D. and Kelly Cason. These new members were invited to join the board as former commissioners,   Lida Hayes-Calvert (with over 8 years of service) and Doris Kimbrough (with over 11 years of service), completed their terms of honorable service.

Dr. Covitz brings her wealth of knowledge to the board as a humanitarian with a background in education and civic leadership. She earned a B.A. and Ed.M. degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Ph.D. from Boston College.

Before retiring from Forsyth Technical Community College (FT) with fifteen years of dedicated service, she was the Executive Director of the Foundation of Forsyth Tech. She worked diligently to invigorate the foundation that supports the college, especially in the areas of Development, Alumni Relations, Marketing, Planned Giving and Grants. She served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at FT.

Currently, Dr. Covitz spends her time as a volunteer with many nonprofit community groups including, but not limited to:  Leadership Winston-Salem (Past Chair), the Women’s Council of the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation (Board of Directors), The Women’s Fund (Finance Committee) of the Winston-Salem Foundation, Stratford Rotary (Past President), and Friends of Brenner Children’s Hospital.

As a new board member, Dr. Covitz now plans to continue her service to the local community.  She is pleased with the work being done by the Housing Authority and is very enthusiastic about working with the organization.  She stated, “Having met with the staff, it’s obvious they have a passion for their work.”
