The mission of the Human Resources and Public Relations Department is to provide professional human resource management and community relations services that support the direction of the Housing Authority of the City of Winston-Salem.

Our team works to ensure equal opportunities in the recruitment and retention of qualified individuals.  We believe our employees are some of our strongest assets.  Therefore, we encourage them to develop their careers with us through various professional training and leadership opportunities.  We also monitor programs and activities to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines.

We promote internal and external communication and activities that create positive relationships and partnerships within our community.  Our goal is to create an awareness of HAWS’ services among our residents, employees, the media and other constituents.  We are the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem and so much more!

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Wage and salary administration
  • Employee benefits administration
  • Employee relations and communications
  • Employee recruitment, orientation and retention programs
  • Coordination of staff training and development
  • Affirmative action and EEO programs
  • Personnel record retention and related activities (i.e. employee evaluation and assessment)
  • Coordination and administration of  risk management and prevention programs (including workers compensation, property and casualty programs)
  • Employee health and wellness initiatives
  • Implement and uphold internal personnel policies (see HAWS Employee Handbook)
  • Provide media relations services
  • Special event coordination (including community relations and employee appreciation events)
