Housing Authority of Winston-Salem Votes to appoint Kevin D. Cheshire as the new Executive Director for the Housing Authority

The Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem (HAWS) voted today to appoint Kevin D. Cheshire as the next Executive Director. Cheshire was selected out of 35 applicants nationwide for the position.

According to Board Chair Dr. Arthur King, who lead the Search Committee, “The Board Search Committee conducted a nation-wide search and we are pleased to announce that Kevin Cheshire is the new Executive Director for HAWS. Kevin has proven himself to be wise beyond his years and exceptionally energetic in moving the Housing Authority forward.”

Cheshire served as the Vice President of Real Estate Development and General Counsel at HAWS, where he has been employed since 2013. Previously he operated a private law practice, Cheshire Law Firm PLLC, and was senior associate with The Banks Law Firm, P.A. in Research Triangle Park, NC. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a B.A. degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Almost his entire career has been spent advising public housing authorities throughout North Carolina on such matters as contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, real estate development, housing management, Housing Choice voucher administration, personnel matters, and development of Board policies and staff operations.

The search was conducted by Gans, Gans & Associates of Plant City, FL, specialists in filling housing authority executive positions. Larry Woods, the former Executive Director, announced his retirement last year to be effective Dec. 31, 2019.
