On April 23, 2020 HUD announced awards totaling $130 Million in funds for neighborhood revitalization. The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem was one of four to receive this Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant in the amount of $30 Million. To fulfill a key aspect of the Choice Neighborhoods grant, the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem is assisting Urban Strategies Inc. in its search for a senior project manager who will oversee the resident-services provisions of the grant.

Urban Strategies has been retained by the housing authority to assist residents with the transitions that will come as the grant is implemented. Services could include assistance with relocation information, registering for school, job counseling, training, financial empowerment, health and wellness, senior services, programs for children and youth, homeownership preparation and more.

  • Installed tempered glass with sliding door to access tenant documents (Crystal); roped barrier (Sunrise); and relocated management office (Healy) to limit resident exposure
  • Designated location for resident packages to be retrieved
  • Installed hand sanitizer dispensers on all floors (awaiting refill insert at Crystal and Sunrise – all suppliers on backorder)

Charter to Offer Free Access to Spectrum Broadband and Wi-Fi For 60 Days For New K-12 and College Student Households and More

Spectrum is offering free broadband and Wi-Fi internet access for 60 days to students impacted by the coronavirus shutdown.
Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, announced Friday that beginning March 16, it will make its services available for free for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who don’t already have internet through the company.
To enroll in the program, call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
