Dear Public Housing Family,

As you are all aware, the Corona Virus (COVID-19) is spreading rapidly within in the United States. The Housing Authority of the City of Winston-Salem is committed to the safety of all public housing families and staff. Since this is new territory for all of us, we appreciate your understanding during this time. Please make note of the following changes to our practices for the foreseeable future.

  • Notices and Access Restrictions – Staff will post and distribute CDC information regarding hand-washing, symptoms, and social distancing. Staff will continue to zealously enforce access restrictions at Sunrise Towers, Healy Towers, and Crystal Towers. Community rooms are closed for communities except for essential functions. It is recommended that pay equipment be avoided, and notices have been posted to this effect.
  • Recertifications – All recertification will be scheduled for a later date.
  • Meetings and Office Visits – All previously scheduled meetings for the remainder of March will be rescheduled. Any previously scheduled meeting for April may be rescheduled as well. All management offices are closed to foot traffic at this time. Staff will continue to communicate by phone or email.
  • Maintenance – Maintenance will only enter occupied units to respond to life-safety issues. Staff will continue to disinfect common areas throughout the day. Work orders will only be accepted through phone and web.
  • Rent – Money orders shall only be accepted through the on site drop box.
  • Self-Quarantine – Staff will seek to identify residents who have self-quarantined. Staff is not seeking medical information. Staff will work to identify service providers who may assist self-quarantined residents, and connect residents with such service providers.

If the agency must close, we will not have staff available to process any changes or paperwork. We will have staff available to monitor telephone calls and emails and will respond as quickly as possible. We will only make a note of the date and time that you called/emailed and the reason for your contact. Once we may return to the office, your specialist will follow-up to complete the change that you indicated.

While we recognize these temporary restrictions may be burdensome, we appreciate your patience during this time. Your diligence in practicing social distancing and maintaining good hand-washing practices supports our community. Thank you for your understanding as we seek to protect vulnerable families in this time, and work to keep all members of our community safe and healthy. We appreciate your cooperation in these matters and are thankful for your support. More information about the Coronavirus and HUD can be found at: https://www.hud.gov/coronavirus.
