On June 8th, 2016, the Community Appearance Commission (CAC) of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County presented the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem with the Count Zinzendorf Award for The Oaks at Tenth Apartments.  The award recognized the Housing Authority for the development of this new property as it has enhanced the attractiveness and enjoyment of the greater downtown Winston-Salem area.

The CAC sponsors this Awards Program to honor the efforts of businesses such as the Housing Authority who have made a positive impact on the appearance of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The primary goal is to positively influence public and private development, advocate for appearance related issues in the community, enhance and protect the natural environment, raise public awareness through awards and education, and support an appealing image of the community. The CAC of Winston-Salem believes that the maintenance of our built and natural environment play a significant role in creating the high quality of life we value in our community.

Through new development and building rehabilitation, the Housing Authority has shown continued efforts to provide safe, quality and affordable housing to families across the area. The Oaks at Tenth Apartments has not only had a positive influence on our community's appearance, it also provides a stepping stone for families to transition out of public housing and into a traditional home setting. The Oaks at Tenth has played a significant role in enhancing the visual quality and aesthetic character of Forsyth County and the City of Winston-Salem for the residents and visitors for generations to come.
